Why the pre-start check matters

RAMS are most useful before work starts, not after a client or auditor asks for evidence. A good pre-start check confirms that the document matches the real job, the right people have reviewed it and the team understands the controls.

Check the scope first

Start by comparing the RAMS with the actual works. The document should match the task, location, sequence, plant, substances, access arrangements and people involved. If the job has changed, the RAMS should change before the team starts.

Confirm hazards and controls

Look for the hazards that could be missed when a template is reused. Common examples include interface with other trades, delivery routes, public access, hot works, work at height, lifting, noise, dust and temporary services.

  • Make sure each hazard has a practical control.
  • Confirm who owns the control on site.
  • Check whether permits, inspections or briefings are needed.
  • Keep evidence linked to the job record.

Record acceptance

RAMS should show who has reviewed, issued and accepted the document. A signature is more useful when it is connected to the correct version, project and date. This avoids confusion when a revised RAMS replaces an older copy.

How Zektrx helps

Zektrx helps contractors turn RAMS into controlled records with owners, versions, signatures, linked evidence and reports. That makes it easier to prove what was issued, who accepted it and what changed before work began.
