Check the permit before work continues
Permit handover is a useful control point. Before another supervisor, shift or contractor continues work, the team should confirm that the permit still reflects the task and site conditions.
Handover questions
- What work is authorised by the permit?
- Who is responsible for the permit at this stage?
- Are isolations, inspections and controls still in place?
- Has the work area changed since the permit was issued?
- Are there open actions or restrictions to communicate?
- What evidence proves the permit was closed or extended correctly?
Keep status clear
Permit status should be visible. Teams need to know whether a permit is draft, live, paused, closed, expired or waiting for review. Ambiguous status creates unnecessary risk.
Connect permit records to the job
Permits are easier to manage when they are linked to the job, RAMS, photos, inspections and actions. That also helps with client reviews and audit packs later.
