Roofing RAMS need site-specific detail
Roofing RAMS should not read like a generic work at height template. The document needs to reflect the actual roof type, access route, edge condition, fragile surface risk, weather exposure, lifting plan and people involved.
The best starting point is to compare the planned method with the real site conditions before work starts.
Key roofing checks
- Access routes, ladders, scaffolds, towers or MEWPs.
- Edge protection, fall arrest, fall restraint and rescue arrangements.
- Fragile surfaces, rooflights, voids and openings.
- Weather limits for wind, rain, ice, heat and visibility.
- Material handling, lifting, manual handling and storage.
- Public protection, exclusion zones and falling object controls.
- Photos, briefings, permits and inspections linked to the job.
Keep changes visible
Roofing work can change quickly when weather, access or other trades affect the planned sequence. If the method changes, the RAMS record should show what changed, who reviewed it and what evidence was captured.
